Furloughed Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How much will I receive in unemployment benefits?
  2. You will receive 60% of your average weekly wage, including tips up to $469, plus an additional $600 per week in Federal Covid-19 Stimulus money. For this reason, we believe our employees are financially better off being furloughed, rather than receiving 32 hours per week, or 80% of your salary. To give you an example we have created the below chart.

  1. How do I file a claim for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits?
  2. We are recommending you file the first week you are furloughed and the fastest way is filing online at ui.nv.gov. Given the volume, the unemployment office asking individuals to file on certain days based on their last name.

A-K may file on Sunday                    L-R may file on Monday                      S-Z may file on Tuesday

Then everyone may apply Wednesday thru Saturday

We have found the success rate is higher during off peak hours, such as later at night or early in the morning.

Unemployment Office Staff assisted filing is available by calling 702-486-0350 on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday during regular business hours, 8:00am to 5:00pm.  This option should only be used when online filing is not possible.

You may also call 1-800-603-9671, for non-claim specific questions from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

  1. What will I need to apply?
  2. If you have filed for unemployment insurance previously you can just re-sign in. If you are a new applicant, you will need your last day worked which is May 3rd, Social Security Number, and place of employment which is Gaughan South LLC. If you type South Point into the employer field, you will then be able to select GAUGHAN SOUTH LLC, DBA South Point Hotel and Casino.  You will then be prompted to create a username, password and pin number.
  3. What do I put as a reason?
  4. Furlough is not an option for unemployment, so please select “laid off due to lack of business.”
  5. Will I receive a check?
  6. Once you have created a username and password, you will be issued a Bank of America Debit Card that will be mailed to you immediately. Once your claim has been processed and approved, the money will be added to that debit card. You will need to keep that card for each week’s installment.
  7. Will it automatically reload?
  8. No. Each week you will need to log in and verify you still have not returned back to work.
  9. What happens to my PTO?
  10. We will not be paying out PTO, but only because this would delay your Unemployment Benefits. If you were to receive a check for 3 weeks’ worth of PTO, that would be three additional weeks you would not receive the additional $600 Federal Stimulus.
  11. What happens to my benefits?
  12. Mr. Gaughan will be covering your payroll deductions for your health benefits through July 31, 2020. This includes you, your spouse and your dependents health benefit deductions. All other payroll deductions (i.e. short term disability, critical care, etc) will cease after May 3rd.
  13. What happens to my 401K?
  14. It will just stay in place. There are options, under the current CARE act, to take out up to $100,000 from your 401K without penalty. Please speak to a Vanguard Representative if this is something you want to consider.
  15. What happens when we reopen.
  16. The furloughing process allows us to start bringing employees back, based on business demand, without any paperwork. Once scheduled, each employee can just walk in, swipe their badge and return to work.
  17. What about my hire date?
  18. For PTO accrual and service awards, your original hire date will remain in place.
